Need Your Feedback

Hello everyone. I sent this to all of you by email. Some of you may prefer responding with comments here on the blog, in fact that would be the best way. Either way, I need your feedback as I plan the All Region Ministers Conference...

Hello Mentor Pastors…

I trust all of you are doing well these days. I spent some days earlier this week with the primary donors who have underwritten the LLC ministry for our Region. They were glad to hear how the ministry is going and how it is such a positive learning and support system for the pastors of the ABCNW. Their financial help has made the LLC ministry possible.

Previously I have announced that our speaker for the fall All Region Ministers Conference, Sept 29-30, will be David Putman, author of Breaking the Missional Code (co-authored with Ed Stetzer). David is part of the pastoral team with Sean Lovejoy at Mountain Lake Church (an eight year old church plant in Cummings, GA, meeting at two locations, growing like a weed, etc.). As I talked to David about being our speaker in the fall he mentioned that his second book will be coming out this May, Breaking the Discipleship Code. I started thinking that it might be smart to give him more time so he could talk about becoming a missional church AND becoming a disciple producing church.

So, here is the question:

What would you think about having David speak two times on Monday, and again three times on Tuesday? He could craft his presentations around the topic of “transitioning to become a missional and discipleship producing church.” By eliminating a session on Monday and Tuesday we could plan in the schedule time for convening the LLCs for discussing implementation of the info that David has presented. This would mean that you would have to be willing to lead your LLC while you are here at Ross Point. This is a major departure than the way we have done it in the past, coupling an ABC pastor with an author/guru type speaker. If you prefer the old schedule motif we can certainly go that route, too. Please respond either way and let me know what you think.

Don’t forget that our Mentor Pastor training next fall will be combined with a “Churches of the Future” gathering (select pastors from Growing Healthy Churches, Transformation Ministries and ABCNW all together) Sept 8-9 here in Post Falls, ID meeting at the Red Lion Templins. The keynote speaker is Jim Putman, pastor at Real Life Ministries, and author of Church Is a Team Sport. Because of this we will not meet after the All Region Ministers Conference. I am asking you to go above and beyond and make two trips to Post Falls in September (rather than having you stay an extra day and a half after the fall ministers conference like we usually do).

One additional reminder. Our next Mentor Pastor Training/Gathering is right around the corner: March 31-April 1 here at Ross Point. Bill Hoyt is scheduled to be with us.

Let me know what you think… You can respond by hitting “Reply All” so everyone can read your response.

I confess- I really like the 2 speaker format.
My wife and I have reflected on all the conferences and we always end up talking about the pastor presenter. I've gotten a lot of encouragement from the "pastor in the field presenter."
If we move to one speaker, I would hope they are somebody that we can relate to and come away with practical stuff to use for real ministry.
Not that I haven't gotten anything out of the "big names", indeed I have been blessed and encouraged there too.
I think Charles has done a good job picking a pastor who has experiences that go along with what the speaker is presenting.

Hello, Charles and Mentors!

After some thought, I believe an extended time with David Putnam would be most beneficial, primarily in the area of becoming a disciple producing church.

I also agree with the idea of area pastors joining with the LLC's to do some work together. I think this would lift up the LLC model and not leave anyone out. Let's do as much positive recruiting as we can.

Blessings,
Ron
